Before participants had the TAFE berak they went for a work visit to Ayers Rock resort. We had several sessions online doing a familiarisation of the locations around the workplace and discussed what jobs they might observe people doing. We also covered some basic safety procedures and workplace conduct so students would be prepared. Comlete personnel provided clothing necessary and each participant had a re4search booklet to record information and photos from the various worksites.
Tina, the community TAFE lecturer from Amata had this to say about the visit.
We met Ali at 8.30 am and toured the hotels and Residence club and staff gym, meeting lots of managers and hearing their career stories. There were lots of trainees working around the resort to say hello to. The students went focused on an office type job and changed their minds to thinking they would start off in Housekeeping! After lunch, Kim and a trainee support worker gave us a detailed tour of the flatette complex (staff accomm) including looking inside a couple of the flats, the laundry, ablution block, outdoor area, common room with TV & Internet and the Flatette swimming pool! The students thought that they could definitely live there and kept saying ‘Rikina’. (excellent!)Then we finished off by having a look at the renovated, updated room at the Sails (creme da le crème)! Thanks Complete Personnel for your support, the Kungkas enjoyed their stay, complete with takeaway dinner and restaurant breakfast! We got some good photos and they will have all the info they need to complete the assignment about their visit early next term! Photo her is taken at the reception of the Caravan Park.
